Visual Studio.Net, the next version of Visual Studio (previously call Visual Studio 7) is now on beta, so we had better get ready. As I get news on the products, ship dates or any thing at all,I will post them here

Redmond is showing off two new editions of Visual
Studio.Net: Visual
Studio.Net Enterprise Architect and Visual Studio.Net
Enterprise
Developer. They focus on three key areas: Software and
database
modeling; development frameworks and templates; and Web
services
testing. Beta 2 of Visual Studio.Net will be available around
mid-June, but Enterprise Architect and Enterprise Developer
will not
be included in that release.

Developers welcomed the release last week of the full beta version of Microsoft Corp.'s Visual Studio.Net tool suite as the first real opportunity, despite nagging compatibility questions, to build Web services.
The platform is one of the first .Net pieces that the Redmond, Wash., company has begun to deliver. Microsoft officials here at Comdex said the beta is 90 percent complete, compared with a preview version released in July, which was about 60 percent complete

The first beta release of Visual Studio.Net has barely left the Redmond
nest, but Microsoft is already busy working on Beta 2. This version is aimed
squarely at ASPs.
Early next year, Microsoft plans to release Beta 2 of the .Net development kit and framework that incorporates security and code
delivery features specifically for ASPs.

Visual Basic developers will have to deal with changes in garbage collecting in Visual Basic.Net, according to Intertech, Inc. instructor Tom Barnaby,who thinks developers may have to start taking "more of a Java-ish style of programming" with COM objects. The other major adjustment will be learning when and where to use inheritance correctly, Barnaby said. Read All About it here
